The film is a reflection of our society, much like a mirror, into the dark side of the human psyche. Prurient and exceedingly tragic and violent news stories always sell programming time or newspapers and the film attempts to create a modern Horror movie in which we, the media and our society are the Frankenstein monster.
Please note that the film is dark and sinister, with language and graphic violence, so do not expect a nice "family film" as some of the negative reviewers did.
Also, the film is something of a pot-boiler that starts slowly and picks up as it goes and you need to follow the basic plot.
Unfortunately; the negative reviews are mostly hostile and not deserved. It is always the same with film and programs that require thought and intelligence.
The vast majority either liked or loved the film, because they are mature, intelligent viewers. The single-star reviewers for the most part are foot-stomping crybabies who are either functionally illiterate, learning impaired, petulent and entitled, or simply way too young or impatient to comprehend the material and react by pumping out either one word reviews, like "sucks" or "terrible", simply because they do not have the attention span or intellect to do the simple task of sitting down and simply watching the film.
This service should just edit out all one-star reviews, or make those reviews require enough words to create an entire thought.

This is an unconventional film, but in my opinion it was the absolute best of -- a year that got overshadowed by Birdman and Whiplash. Also, a sleeper and under appreciated performance by Riz Ahmed that put him on the map, setting him up for later projects like The Night Of.

Ummh, yes, the reviewer is absolutely right, on both counts re the film and characters. The few who are uncomfortable, squeamish or revolted by the spectacles filmed and by the behaviour of their colleagues, are too 'frit' to fight back and try to stop it.
