Blood is all a fan of the original movie might expect. Very gory! Damn those rabbits! The story begins on a subway train with a vampire-like monster passing for a human before a fight scene ensues.
That is about all this empty sequel has in common with the original Blood The Last Vampire. Expect no further continuity from that well-made original.
There doesn't appear to be much continuity between Last Dark and the TV series either save for an annoyingly, constantly ingratiating villain.
Last Dark's Saya is reduced to a mere shadow of the original Saya as a near monosyllabic, brooding teen obsessed with revenge - for what is never made clear.
For being experimented on? For being betrayed by a lover? Her character is so one dimensional I couldn't bring myself to care.
And why is she constantly in the school girl outfit? Why does a character with such potential have to be reduced to that fetish?
Because this sequel caters to THAT crowd. The villain's actions make little sense and so leave the story without any plot.
In one fight scene Saya, who cannot kill humans, is fighting her way past the villain's main henchman and guards. They have the advantage.
So what does the henchman do? Mutate himself into some monster that she can kill. Towards the end of the movie the main villain's motives look merely nihilistic.
Why is the villain trying to have his hench woman rise to a political office if he intends to ruin the world with a colossal monster first?
The opening fight scene and the exciting car chase gave the movie high hopes in the first 15 minutes. So why then were the monsters and subsequent fights so uninspired.
Were the animators thinking "what's scarier and more demonic than tentacles? The rest of the movie doesn't live up to the opening.
It certainly doesn't live up to Blood The Last Vampire. Not even close. It is horrible compared to what I was hoping to see which was my mistake.
The original movie Blood was fantastic this version is just crap. Love it it has a bit of xxxholic characters to it I hear that there is another season of the blood plus series and I hope it is true.

As I wrote in my Blood C series review this is the true ending to the series, I see this as more of a 'feature length episode' It was a strategic move to make more money but if you're like me then you wanted to see how it all ends.
The animation looks slightly more polished but that's probably because this is a film, there's a homage in the beginning with a train scene that had me clapping with a sense of odd nostalgia.
We finally find out just why everything that happened in the series happened and I understood the reasoning to a degree.
The ending is Plus whoo the school uniform is back though not as nice as the one from the series again I saw the reasoning.
This film had it's flaws but if you look past it they did a good job tying up some of the loose ends in the series with the little time they had in the film.

The plot was somewhat light and there were many aspects that could have done with some more focus and development.
The hackers of SIRRUT in particular could have benefited from some more exploration as other than Mana we discover little about them and sometimes come across as little more than plot devices.
On the plus side, the animation for the series was very good with the CGI used for the car chase at the beginning and the final battle being particularly spectacular.
The action was well choreographed with some nice moments but unfortunately, as with a lot of the films good points, the final battle despite being beautiful was far too short.
The English dub of the series was good with Alexis Tipton, Robert McCollum, Martha Harms and Todd Haberkorn reprising their roles from the series and with most of the new cast doing good jobs at portraying their characters.
The subbed Japanese version is also included for the movie as well of course. For special features the DVD contains a cast and crew commentary and a number of promotional videos and trailers for the movie.
Overall, while 'The Last Dark' was entertaining it could have been a lot better than it was with the animation not quite overcoming the underuse of certain characters and as such I would give the film around three and a half stars in all.
Report abuse. The animation was good enough but even if it is easy to watch follow the story overall compared to all the Anime I seen it just is boring to me even if it has a tiny bit of bite pun intended cool to it it is not enough for me.
I see some potential in it if I was a fan of Blood C. Words cannot describe how awesome this film is: from its unbelievable animation quality to its strong and relatable characters to its engaging and interesting plot, to its great villain Fumito who's been redesigned here blatantly to look more like Johan from Monster for some reason , to its action sequences and use of very high quality CGI at times, to the attention to detail that they put into al of the background art.
