At some point, Harry came into possession of a small fragment of the two-way mirror Aberforth had bought off of Mundungus. Aberforth used this to his advantage to keep an eye on Harry during his journey to hunt and destroy Horcruxes.
The fragment came in handy when Harry used it to ask Aberfoth who Harry was unaware of was him at the time for help out of Malfoy Manor.
Aberforth responded by sending Dobby the House Elf, the former slave of the Malfoy's, to Harry's aid. Harry and his friends made it out safely though.
Later in the story, Harry, Ron, and Hermione all apparate to Hogsmeade village hoping to find a way up to Hogwarts castle via secret passage.
Their cover, however, was immediatley blown by a Caterwauling Charm thereby informing Death Eater's of Harry's arrival in the village.
As the Death Eater's could not see Harry under the Invisibility Cloak, they released Dementors to locate Harry, but Harry warded them off with his Patronus Charm, which inevitably relayed his position to nearby Death Eaters.
Within this exact moment, Aberforth opened his door and ushered the trio under his roof while covering for them telling the Death Eaters that the Caterwauling Charm was set off by Aberforth letting out his cat, and the Patronus of which was perceived to be Harry's stag, was actually Aberforth's goat.
Afterwards, Harry recognized Aberforth as Albus's younger brother. Aberforth tried to convince the three to escape the village the next morning because he believed that Voldemort had won this war and that the Order was finished.
Harry refused by justifying he needed to finish the mission Aberforth's brother had laid out for Harry. Aberforth, still upset with his late brother over their sister's death, told Harry off for following his brother, and questioned whether or not Harry knew the entire truth about Dumbledore.

The Death Eaters, who knew what Harry's Patronus looked like, were alerted to the fact that Harry was definitely there.
As Death Eaters swarmed the alley way they were hiding in, the trio were rescued by Aberforth, who told them to hide in his pub.
One Death Eater spotted him and demanded to know if he had seen Harry Potter, threatening that if he called Voldemort, he would be killed for hiding him.
Aberforth denied seeing him, to which the Death Eater replied "He was definitely here, I saw his Patronus," to which Aberforth said that it was not Harry's Patronus, it was his.
The Death Eater primarily disbelieved him, but soon came around once Aberforth fired his Patronus and claimed he misjudged what the Patronus was.

He was blamed for Pettigrew's betrayal of James and Lily Potter's whereabouts to Lord Voldemort and murder of twelve Muggles eye-witnessing their confrontation in the streets, thus landing him in Azkaban without trial, until his escape twelve years later, during which he exposes Pettigrew's treachery to his godson Harry Potter.
He proceeded to serve in the revived Order and helped defeat two Death Eaters in battle. Killed by his cousin Bellatrix Lestrange , in a battle within the Department of Mysteries.
Murdered along with his wife and children by Death Eaters during the first Wizarding War. Met Harry several times before it was revealed that he was a member of the Order of the Phoenix.
Diggle was part of the Advance Guard who helped Harry escape from the Dursleys' house in the fifth book. In the final instalment of the series, he helped take the Dursleys to a protected area.
The Death Eaters later burned his house in a raid, but Diggle was unharmed. Diggle was portrayed by David Brett in the film adaptation of Philosopher's Stone.
Dumbledore's schoolmate. He wrote an obituary of Dumbledore for The Daily Prophet and openly defended Dumbledore's integrity during the final instalment of the series.
